Come as a student, not as a teacher
Working in different countries and cultures come with their own challenges, but are surprisingly similar in many ways.
When I was based as a public health researcher in Uganda, I wanted to not lead but to be guided to learn their ways of working. We all wanted the same goal, to help others, to change the systems perpetuating the problem and to know we somehow made a difference by working together.
There is much more to learn when you always come as a student and not the teacher. It was an invaluable experience to work with these extraordinary medical doctors, professionals and researchers changing the lives of many.
